ADM Eyes Eight Emerging Trends

By  Eric Schroeder CHICAGO — Plant-based lifestyles, clean and transparent sourcing, and sustainable goodness are among the eight trends ADM sees fueling current and future global growth. Drawing on research from its Outside Voice consumer insights platform, the company’s top trends for 2022 point the way for ADM’s innovation, renovation and development platforms, the company said. Many of the trends are being shaped by the coronavirus pandemic that has lingered for the past 18 months. “Consumers today continue to navigate a tumultuous environment that has uprooted every aspect of their lives,” said Brad Schwan, vice president of category marketing at ADM. “This has led forward-thinking brands to develop new solutions purpose-built to help consumers establish a sense of normality for themselves, their families and their pets. We’re seeing everything from foods, feeds and beverages that promote gut health to plant-based meat and dairy alternatives to biodegradable packaging.” Heading

Italian Mobster Opens Organized Crime-Themed Burger Joint, Charges Prosecutors Double

Salvatore Buzzi says he got the idea for the restaurant during his latest prison stint. By  Jelisa Castrodale  October 07, 2021   A new burger joint opened in the suburbs of Rome today and, under normal circumstances, that wouldn't be particularly newsworthy. But this clearly isn't normal circumstances, since the owner of Buzzi's Burgers is a convicted murderer, drug trafficker, and well-connected Italian mobster. Salvatore Buzzi told an Italian news outlet that the idea for the restaurant came to him during his most recent stint in prison (and his release is still being contested by prosecutors). Instead of trying to distance himself from his criminal past, Buzzi is clearly reveling in it.  According to   Corriere Della Sera , the menu at Buzzi's Burgers is filled with references to the Mafia and to other criminals. There are sandwiches named for the organized crime dramas  Gomorrah  and  Suburra  (and the latter is loosely based on the  Mafia Capitale  investigation t

Canned Pumpkin Actually Is Pumpkin, but Not the Kind You Carve

It's time to set the record straight. By  Kimberly Holland October 13, 2021 In a 2016 story titled "I Just Found Out Canned Pumpkin Isn't Pumpkin At All, And My Whole Life is Basically a Lie," a writer with our sister publication MyRecipes spelled out how she believed canned pumpkin was actually squash, not pumpkin. The story, which also appeared on allrecipes.com, spread like wildfire, igniting outraged cooks in all corners of the country — for good reason. We've all believed our precious cans of pumpkin puree come from magical fields of orange gourds that bask in the sun until they're ripe for the picking. But there's just one problem with that story: It is not exactly true. Canned pumpkin  is  pumpkin, but it's not the type of pumpkin you are likely imagining when you pluck a few cans off the shelf for your next  pumpkin bread  baking session. And to be fair to our culinary imaginations, the cans often show  illustrations of the classic jack-o'

Green, Red, Yellow Peppers. What's your favourite

Red, yellow, and orange peppers get their good looks, as well as some of their most noteworthy health effects, from plant pigments called carotenoids. These pigments act like sunscreen, protecting the ripening peppers from sun damage. As it turns out, those pigments have a similar safeguarding effect on us. Like other antioxidants, carotenoids also help boost immunity and fight cancer and heart disease. They're valuable for vision as well: Orange peppers are a top source of lutein and zeaxanthin, which guard against cataracts and macular degeneration. In fact, orange peppers contain more zeaxanthin than any other fruit or vegetable (with corn a distant second). Red peppers supply abundant amounts of beta-carotene, which your body converts to vitamin A, a nutrient crucial for night vision. Perhaps the most surprising nutritional pepper perk is its vitamin C. Just one small red, yellow, or orange pepper gives you up to three times your daily requirement of C (one small orange offers

Today is national Frappe Day!

Get your coffee on and enjoy yourself. If they weren’t super expensive (and filled with who-knows-what as far as the ingredients go), We would be at Starbucks getting a “frappucino” pretty much every day. To avoid that scenario, we came up with a simple, yet delicious, homemade version. The secret ingredient in this drink is organic, freeze-dried, instant coffee. It’s tasty and convenient! And it’s perfect for making blended iced coffee drinks. Sure, you can make a blended iced coffee drink with chilled brewed coffee but we don’t make ours that way, so we can’t help you out as far as a recipe goes. You need a good blender for this recipe. Not necessarily an expensive one, but one that won’t crap out on you when you attempt to blend lots of ice in it. By the way, you know what makes this iced coffee frappe even more delicious? You guessed it: ICE CREAM! Add a scoop or two of vanilla (or chocolate or coffee) ice cream for extra deliciousness. If you do so, you may want to cut back on t

Halloween is so much fun. How about some bats! To make your bats, you will need to collect all of the spooky ingredients needed to whip up the scary treat! You will need: •A chocolate snack cake to assemble the body of the bat •Wax paper or as suggested by Hungry Happenings, parchment paper to create your workspace. •You will need a black food coloring.
