Ripe vs. Unripe Bananas: Which are Better for You?

When it comes to bananas many of us go well … literally “banana’s” for them; after all, they are the  nation’s favorite fruit  and the original 100-calorie snack! Sometimes we often look at fruit and think “oh, it’s far too ripe” or “oh dang, that fruit is too green!” which is a shame because quite often different stages of a fruits maturity have different benefits. UNRIPE BANANAS Benefits:  One benefit of green bananas is the high resistant  starch content . For anyone trying to avoid food with high sugar content,  green bananas  are an option whereas yellow bananas are not. So those suffering from Type 2 Diabetes can eat the unripe fruit while maybe ripened bananas are not as compatible. Unripe bananas also have  probiotic bacteria , a friendly bacterium that helps with good colon health. In addition, green bananas also help you absorb nutrients better, particularly  calcium . Drawbacks:  Because antioxidant levels actually INCREASE as bananas age, unripe bananas are low

TSA Agents Are Going After Snacks More Than Ever and Travelers Are Not Happy

Your checklist of things to remove and put in separate plastic bins in the airport security line just keeps getting longer. ANDREA ROMANO   July 05, 2018 A few months ago, you might have noticed that some TSA agents remove any food items  from their carry-on bags before putting them through the scanner. started making the fairly unusual request that travelers  Up until recently, the policy was simply a “recommendation” issued by the TSA to help with the screening process, according to  The Washington Post . But now, it looks like the policy is becoming more concrete. More travelers, including Shivani Vora of  The New York Times , have encountered agents who have asked them to remove any edible items, citing that “it’s a new policy.” Snack removal is supposed to actually speed up lines and help agents better check for explosive devices. Larry Studdiford, a security consultant for airports and the founder of Studdiford Technical Solutions, told  The New Yo

Do Chip Bags Have Less Air in Them Than They Used To?

This study says it depends on the chip but yeah, probably MIKE POMRANZ   July 05, 2018 It doesn’t take much to crush a bag of potato chips into smithereens. To prevent this from happening, chip brands have a secret gas up their sleeve: nitrogen. Bags of chips get pumped full of the stuff to prevent the contents inside from getting completely crushed (and the nitrogen helps preserve the chips as well). But at what point do things change from that gas doing the consumer a favor to simply deceiving us about how many chips are actually inside? The answer to that question is one of personal opinion—and to be fair to the boys working for big potato chip, snack bag contents are measured by weight, not by volume, so anyone with a bit of scientific knowledge should know exactly what they are getting themselves into. Still, the amount of air in chip bags is apparently a regular customer complaint, and so every now and then, someone comes along to perform a test on which brands
